Born in Sonoma County in 1989, Drew Prestis is a sculptor working primarily in steel with the occasional addition of assorted media. His work centers on the seemingly artificial imbalance which is capable in the steel medium, as well as the combination of both natural and unnatural visual elements within each piece. While attending college Prestis worked for the studio of Robert Ellison assisting in the building and installation of his sculptures, in addition to working on multiple architectural, landscape, as well as automobile design and fabrication projects. Prestis currently resides and works in Windsor.
When I discovered astronomy I became intrigued by the science involved, but more specifically the unknown shapes and forms which occur beyond our atmosphere. I find it particularly exciting to recreate my impression of these shapes in steel and other media. This piece is a part of a continuing series focusing on celestial objects.
